American Legal Profession Willing To Adopt QR Code

We all know that computer and technology geeks, artists and creative people were the early adopters of QR Codes. I find it amusing and also surprising that a survey showed that there is the willingness to use and quite an extensive use of QR Codes from those in the legal industry as well. The survey was conducted from July till August this year and the results showed that generally speaking, the legal profession knows what QR Codes are all about and is already using QR Codes for business.

From what I can gather from the stats, there were more than 14 million people who scanned QR Codes from January to June this year…and that is already amazing news. The legal profession, as it turns out, are more resourceful and less skeptical than I have initially thought.

QR Code technology, if you don’t already know, is a Japan-based mobile phone technology that allows people to encrypt information like links, phone numbers or profiles, etc. Yes, some would say that it is a spin-off from the current 2D barcoding system that we are using right now…except it can contain much more information AND you do not need an expensive scanner to scan the code. All you need is a smart phone and a downloadable free QR Code reader. With that, you are good to go.

At this point, business-wise, most people are scanning codes that links to promotional pages of products and services; they are also making use of QR Codes as business cards.

These legal eagles includes people from the top management of large legal firms and the Legal Marketing Association. A whopping eighty-five percent of those who responded to the survey revealed that they were not QR Code dummies. Those who knew and have not been scanning the QR Codes that they have found said that they intend to use the codes per chance they see one, which shows willingness to adopt the technology as a part of their lives – be it professionally or on a personal level.

The sad part about this news is this – whilst the legal profession is willing to make use of QR Codes for business and as a lifestyle choice, only twelve percent of the top law firms in the country had or knows how to come up with a mobile-friendly website. In order for these large law firms to hop onto the QR Code marketing bandwagon, they need to, first, understand that they need a mobile-friendly website.
