Android – How Secure Are You?

google-logo

One of the things about using an Android platform is that it is an open system and as with any other open systems, users are exposed to multiple dangers that sometimes are hard to curb and control. As at the point of writing this article, Google does not yet have a solid system or platform to protect users from malicious programs and malwares. But Android lovers are taking the risks along with every step as they try to come up with their own programs and software that can keep the malwares away from their devices.

The latest company offering security support programs for Android phones is Sophos Mobile Security which is free for download from Google Play. The leading security sof5tware at this point in time would have to be AVG which is a reliable security and mobile scanning device that found its roots in personal computers and laptops.

Sophos, a Boston-based company, is now offering an alternative security software for Android phones that is lightweight, free to download and is often updated.

Representative, Payal Mehrota, stated that there are three major functions that come with the software which is the scanning ability, loss and threat protecting (which protects information contained within the mobile phone if the device is stolen) and also privacy protection which informs the mobile user if they have just downloaded an intrusive application.

Before launching the software, a thorough study was conducted and it was found that nearly forty percent of the readers and respondents of their blog and websites had devices that run on the Android platform. Mehrota went on to lament the fact that this exposes their readers and other Android lovers to multiple online threats due to the open-ness of the system and it is a pity because the Android platform is an amazing one as a part of a business model. Many of us are relying on it for our everyday lives, be it on a personal or professional level.

For those who want even better protection can go on to download (for a fee) the Sophos Mobile Control which offers other Sophos products and services and a main control app that acts as a main control center for all the other apps.

Please feel free to let us know if you know about other reliable and often-updated security apps or if you have a review. We would love to hear from you.
