App Ideas: Path, A Social Networking App
Another social networking site. Who needs it?
Well apparently, more than a million people do. Path is a social networking app that flat-out beats Facebook on your mobile phones.
What’s more, like any social networking app, you can add your friends. But there is a limit: you can add only up to 150 of your friends. Why? Because it is said that you can only have meaningful connections with 150 people. This is Facebook’s weakness: with the average Facebook user having 500 friends or so, it is very difficult to catch up with every one of them.
Path’s 150 connection limit forces you to think about who to connect with on Path, making it a much more meaningful social networking experience.
Path is basically a great way to share videos and photos. You have a timeline user interface and you can easily view photos and videos right on that timeline. It does not take up the whole screen and you can stop a video if you want to. Not only that, you can record your videos and capture your photos inside the app itself and it gets shared on your Path timeline immediately after you press that shutter button.
Speaking of photos, Path has its built-in Instagram. You can have great photos with the same camera lens in Instagram. You have 14 free lens to have great photo effects and you can buy more if you like.
Additionally, Path beats out Facebook when it comes to tagging and location. When you want to add a photo or a status, you can tap on a section of your screen and you are given a list of people that you interact with most often. Unlike in Facebook, you would need to find your friends or search for them. Adding your location is also much easier.
Path is a great app for smaller groups of people. The interactions here are usually more intimate and meaningful.
