Bluefly Reaches Out Through Commercial, Bethanny Frankel and QR Code
One of the biggest disadvantages of not having a retail outlet is having limited reach. It is not that being an e-commerce store is a bad thing but compared to retail outlets who have additional avenue when marketing through all types of mediums, e-commerce shops like Bluefly Inc. cannot display QR Codes on their stores, stand in front of the shop distributing leaflets or entice potential customers with good-looking decorations.
But that does not stop Bluefly Inc. from exploring their options via mobile and internet marketing.
Bluefly is known as one of the leading online-only retailers and is listed as No. 163 on the Top 500 Guide. Through a recent press release, the etailer informed the media that they have a commercial out already and together with the commercial, their fans and potential customers can scan a QR Code and get a discount when purchasing from their online store if the total purchase is above $150.
The QR Code, we think, will appear throughout the commercial. For those who are not familiar with QR Code technology, it is a barcode system that one can scan with a smart phone or an android phone. You will need a QR Code reader to scan the code. In this case, for Bluefly, the QR Code leads mobile phone users to a website whereby they can view an extended version of the commercial/video. The said commercial is called ‘Closet Confessions’.
The commercial is expected to be a hit because the 45-second ad features none other than Bethenny Frankel from the reality show Bethenny Getting Married?.
Representatives from the e-tailer said that they loved the way QR Code allows them to really speak to their customers. And Bethenny is fashion-savvy and loves to be in touch with things and people around her. Sounds like a good reason to use her in their commercial.
Reaching the consumers via QR Code is quickly becoming the norm over here in the United States as we see more and more companies and large brand names embracing the concept of interacting with their target market as opposed to pushing products, services and brands out the conventional way.
It was also reported that their social media site, Blueflyclosetconfessions.com, generated more than a million page views ever since its launch in April this year.
