Bringing You Canada On Your Phone

canada-tourism

It appeared in many popular American dailies – a Canadian QR Code tourism marketing campaign. The QR Code campaign was published in newspapers like LA Times, Chicago Tribune, The Boston Globe and also the New York Times. The QR Code is said to lead mobile phone users to websites and videos offering vacation packages for various Canadian tourist hotspots.

The Canadian tourism industry advertised by way of newspaper wraps instead of the conventional printed advertisements – which is, we have to admit, quite a refreshing change.

The Canadian Tourism industry is said to be using QR Codes to bring attention to their many popular destinations which boasts of rich cultural experiences. The QR Codes basically link people to their printed version of an online travel blog featuring Canadian vacation spots – except that it is very interactive, helping users find videos and letting them provide feedback and comments on them.

When the sites are loaded up, users can even link and share the information and videos on popular online social networking sites like Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and Flickr. So, let’s say you scan the QR Code with your smart phone and see video that you like, with a flick of your finger, you can share the same video with all your friends on these online social networking sites – much like the way you can share them on a laptop or personal computer.

Sometimes, you have to marvel at all these technology. They are amazing!

To make the experience even more complete, after viewing the videos and reading the content, if the urge hits you, you can book your vacation packages with discount coupons right there and then on your phone. These offers are said to be exclusive to people who respond to the QR Code campaign. We are not sure if they have similar packages for non-smart phone users.

They are recognizing and acknowledging the fact that the world, their consumers, are more mobile now. Consumers, especially travelers, book flights, hotels, explore the world all through their mobile phones. People no longer have to be strapped to their seats in order to order things. They can do it all while waiting for a table at a restaurant, shopping for clothes in the mall or while having drinks with friends.

Bringing Canada to them via this QR Code marketing campaign is a smart move, we would say.
