Calvin Klein’s Uncensored QR Code Ad
While it is true that it will take New Yorkers a little bit more time before scanning a QR Code is the ‘norm’ like it is in Japan, we have to applaud the enthusiasm and acceptance that has been shown by advertisers and consumers alike.
It was widely reported that in the last few years, there is a dramatic rise in the number of people who have switched from conventional mobile phones to smart phones like Blackberry and iPhone. In fact, there are ever more android and other similar phones out in the market today. The good news is that most of these new phone models come with QR Code readers which makes it one less task for users of cell phones whenever they need to scan a QR Code.
So, new phone users, if you spot this Calvin Klein giant QR Code, take aim and shoot away.
The said New York Calvin Klein advertisement is placed in a very noticeable place on Houston Street’s intersection. Instead of using the conventional colors of black and white, Calvin Klein’s advertising team decided to use eye-catching red. And the campaign is a might catchy one too…uncensored. Now, who wouldn’t be curious about both the QR Code and what is uncensored about the content that will be revealed to them?
Newbies may not know what QR Codes are about. QR Code is a not-so-new 2D barcode system that Japan’s been using for the past decade. For some reason, the rest of the world is slow to catch on. But that is no longer true for the United States and some parts of Europe and Australia. There is a huge wave of acceptance and usage especially this year, all thanks to the enthusiasm shown by advertisers like the one mentioned in this blog post. In fact, local authorities have shown unprecedented support for the technology. Just yesterday, we wrote a blog post about New York City’s sanitary trucks carrying a QR Code on the back of the vehicle, the QR Code of which leads cell phone users to a video regarding recycling.
This technology will continue to sweep through many parts of the country and the world. We are sure that one fine day, not very far into the future, our offline world will be truly linked to the online one.
Now, isn’t THAT exciting?
