Consumers Would Love Coupons

In a recent study done by some big guns in the mobile advertising industry, it was found that consumers were generally receptive of mobile marketing strategies, including QR codes. More importantly, it was found that general consumers would love to receive discount coupons in the form of QR codes.

Let’s take a look at what they have to say so far.

A low percentage of participants thought that they don’t mind receiving SMS advertisements which shows that this method is, perhaps getting a tiny bit old and bothersome. Not to mention the fact that SMS marketing is unexciting, unattractive, boring and lack room for much creativity. How creative an SMS advertisement is left completely to a writer’s imagination but with limited space, there’s only so much a writer can do.

Next came movie theater offers and promotion for shows which is in alignment with what we are thinking. People generally don’t mind receiving SMS or updates for anything relating to entertainment, leisure, lifestyle and traveling. Everyone loves fun stuff.

However, there was another group of consumers preferred to receive updates and offers for things that they can redeem or make use of at their own pleasure…without a time limit. This could be in the form of an exclusive discount, special services and unlimited access to redemption programs. Suffice to say, there is a shortage of that because most companies like to promote their products and services with time, amount and percentage limit. Would it look to you too that consumers would like a little more control out of what they receive on their mobile phones?

These participants also revealed that they would love to receive QR Codes on their phones…something that they can save and access later on at their own leisure and pleasure.

The most surprising one of all? This one. Most consumers say that they would LOVE to receive grocery shopping coupons in the form of QR Codes! K-mart, Harveys, Kash n’ Karry, Safeway…you hearing this?

Somehow, after seeing that, it all makes sense. How many times have we ever approached a counter with our intended purchases already neatly piled up in the shopping cart only to suddenly remember that we have left the coupons at home? We have, at some point in time, been careless and lost out on the chance to save some cash. But imagine if there was a coupon in the form of a QR Code ready-to-be-used in the cell phone – we will never miss the chance for some savings since modern folks are almost never without our cell phone.

Let’s hope these chain of grocery stores listen up real soon.
