Delafield Block Party’s QR Code Scavenger Hunt

If you had a smart phone and there was a QR Code plastered on a signboard right in front of you and someone is telling you that you might just win something – a coupon, a drink or a meal – would you download a QR Code reader right there and then and have a go at it? We think some of those who are attending what we call one of the biggest festivals (ever) at a Block Party this Friday and Saturday might. The block party’s going to be help throughout both days along Main St. and Genesee St in Delafield.

Yes, we noted that this type of scavenger hunt is nothing new but it is still interesting to note, though, because every single little inch of development means that more people are not only taking notice of but accepting and using it as a part of their daily lives.

What you need is a smart phone – it doesn’t have to be an iPhone or Blackberry. QR Code readers run the same way on Android phones or even phones running on Symbian operating systems. A good camera goes a long way, though, because it determines the quality of the scan which determines the accuracy of decoding the QR Code.

The organizers of the said Block Party have gone ahead to create, print out and post dozens of QR Codes and placed them throughout the Block Party’s venues which is going to be held at the Lake Country Art Festival. They have gone a few steps further by also placing the codes in parks, some local diners and some participating retail outlets too. In fact, some of the organizers have appealed to volunteers who agreed to post the QR Codes at public places which basically mean, a bigger promotion, bigger exposure for the event.

The organizers wanted to do something that embraces the culture yet make use of QR Code to promote one of the most popular events in Delafield. On top of that, with the use of QR Code, they will get to see how receptive people are of smart phones and QR Codes. They wanted to see if it was possible to engage people with them.

Well, the scavenger hunt at the Block Party is not the only way to have fun at the Block Party of course – there’s going to be loads of drinks at the beverage tent, good food from local neighboring restaurants and entertainment too. But the thought of winning free drinks, food and cash is enticing enough to distract those attending.

Or are they not? We’ll see.
