Diesel Fuels Up With QR Code Facebook ‘Like’ Campaign
While the producers of the new X-Men movie are busy promoting the film with a widespread poster posting worldwide, other people are also finding ways to promote their products by linking online social media with mobile technology.
If you find a movie poster featuring and promoting the X-Men movie, look around to see if you can find the QR Code. Some mobile users and readers of this website’s been saying that they can’t find the QR Code on the posters that they saw. By the way, the QR Code brings smart phone users to the movie’s exclusive trailer and behind-the-scene look at the movie’s filming process.
On the European front, specifically in Spain, popular youngster fashion line Diesel is rolling out their mobile phone campaign in earnest. Diesel is an international brand name and although we think that the QR Code campaign should be tested on an international scale, perhaps there is some wisdom in rolling it out phase by phase. At the moment, Diesel’s promotional campaign is aimed at Europe.
The company will be printing out QR Codes for its products. The QR Code acts as a ‘like’ button on Facebook. Let’s explore how this works and why it can go viral. Once a mobile phone user scans the QR Code, it will automatically tell all of his or her friends on Facebook that, obviously, that the product page was ‘liked’. Together with Facebook features, the friends of this Facebook user knows which particular product was liked and announces that he/she has been shopping at Diesel.
This acts as a form of ‘word of mouth’ viral marketing…on a much larger scale.
This marketing campaign, at the point of writing this blog post, is a mere trial, hence, the promotion is limited to the confines of Madrid, Spain. However, we foresee a full-blown campaign rolled out all across Europe if this proves to be a success or is popular enough.
Watch the video below and you’ll understand what it is all about. Hope you guys had a good weekend.
