Domex Superfresh Uses QR Codes

packaging2

Domex Superfresh Growers out of Yakima, Washington, have started putting QR codes on their packaging.

The grower had put up QR codes on their clamshells and cherry bags.

The result?  The QR codes took more than 2,000 people to its mobile website at m.superfreshgrowers.com.  What’s more, the company now has an idea of who scans their QR codes.  For example, they found out that most of the scanners came from the Far East and the Pacific Northwest.  These two regions were followed by Canada and the U.S. West Coast.

The company is considering doing more with their QR code campaigns, which is why they are looking into videos.  They say that video content would soon be available when users scan their QR codes.  Domex is planning to conduct interviews with different growers to add a human face to the QR codes.

What’s the benefit?  Domex Superfresh marketing and communications manager, Loren Queen, says that QR codes are a “great way to connect” growers with consumers.

Queen also opines that QR codes are great in letting people know where the food they are buying comes from and who is growing it.

This is not the first time that QR codes are being used for food products.  We have earlier reported that TopFruit.com basically uses QR codes to bring videos to their consumers.  These videos instruct them on how to ripen fruits and care for vegetables to ensure their freshness.  What’s more there are also cooking videos using fruits and vegetables that they sell.

Also, consumers in the United Kingdom also scan QR codes on the crabs that they eat to know where it comes from.  The Really Interesting Crab Company has put up QR codes on their menu that resolves to videos that shows customers how their crabs are caught.

QR codes are a great way to assure your customers of the safety of your products, especially foodstuff.  More than information, we think that this kind of assurance is very important in today’s health-conscious world.
