Five Things to Look for in a Logo
In marriage, choosing the wrong person to marry always ends up in heartache and trouble. Is it any wonder why people draw up a laundry list of traits that they would like their ideal mate to have?
The same goes for your logos. Choose the wrong one and it could mark the end for your business. So it is only reasonable to also have a list of characteristics that your logo should have. Here are the 5 things that you should look for in trying to come up with the perfect logo:
1. Simple
When it comes to logos, simple ones are often the best. This allows the logo to be very flexible and versatile, while also being memorable and easy to identify.
2. Memorable
Simple logos are often memorable, but you have to make your logo a really memorable one by making sure that it is relevant to your business or products or services.
Your logo should be distinctive enough so that people would be able to differentiate you from your competitors.
3. Versatile
Versatility and flexibility are very important when it comes to logos. You should be able to put your logo on any medium, like on paper, and at different places. You should be able to use it everywhere. It should look good whether you render it in black and white or in color.
4. Appropriate
We are not saying that your logo should give people an idea of what your company does, but it would help if the elements of your logo are in sync with what your business is all about. A mobile phone company’s logo does not need a picture of a mobile phone on it, just as Apple’s logo does not depict computers, tablet or mobile phones.
And just as a university’s logo having childish colors and graphics might not work best for the university.
5. Timeless
Because your logo would be representing your business, make sure that it is appropriate and relevant for as long as your business is in operation. This means that you should avoid fads and time-based elements in your logo design. A great example is Coca-Cola’s logo, which has been around since the company was first founded in the 1800s. Tide and Disney are also shining examples of companies with timeless logos.
