Fun-ner Functions
Amidst news and warnings directed at mobile phone owners about randomly clicking on or scanning QR Codes because a bunch of hackers are, apparently, pushing a malware online. When their QR Code is scanned, it compromises the safety and security of the mobile phone owners’ personal information or data stored in the phone. Our advice to mobile phone users is this – check for reliability and if it comes from a reliable source or if it is an advertisement placed by a popular company, you are probably in safe hands. However, per chance you find someone pushing a QR Code down your throat through unknown websites, blogs and obscure Twitter or Facebook accounts, it is better to err on the side of caution.
On to the positive side of things, it appears to me that most event organizers are using QR Code at their events all around the world. That is the good news. The not-so-good news is that they are underutilizing it. As you know, scanning a QR Code with your smart phone can take you to a mobile-friendly website. But that is not ALL that the QR Code technology can do. It can track and register attendees when they arrive, it can be used as an easily-readable business card making exchanging business information with other people at the convention easy and convenient. You can also perform some pretty extraordinary business task with the code. To make things even more attention-grabbing, turn the QR Code into polls, loyalty cards, payment system, etc.
There is just so much that was never explored or used during the events and exhibitions recently. And of course, most people with smart phones and with a little tech savvies must have read and found out about how people are using QR Codes for scavenger hunts. I think it is a superb way to make exhibitions slightly, if ever so slightly, more fun, don’t you think?
On top of that, you can place banners and buntings at the convention or exhibition that leads mobile phone users to polls, surveys and even LIVE contests. It is an remarkable way to put a little more bang into the event, instead of the boring old walk-around type.
Most advertisers DO and reckon that QR Codes is the bridge between the online and offline world, so event organizers out there reading this, please go ahead and make the function a little more fun with QR Codes.
