Google’s QR code URL Shortener All The Rage

Google’s already into the QR Code game with Places and Google Maps, therefore, one has to wonder how much further will this company go in implementing QR Codes for other services under the company.

Well, tech-savvy people would have heard about URL shorterning services like TinyURL. These services shorten long URLs to facilitate easy tweeting and SMSing. And those who follow Google’s progress and expansion would have known about Google’s very own URL shortener called Goo.gl. Goo.gl works pretty much the same way as other URL shortening services available right now but as always, it is crucial that Google stays ahead of the game.

What they did was to add QR code to the service. Not only is Google helping you shorten long URLs, the QR Codes are created so that it is accessible for mobile phone users too.

We all know that Twitter gives users a 140-character room to share their thoughts with followers. This space constraint is also evident for SMS services because the more you write, the more you pay. Hence, as important as it is for Twitter users to have shorter URLs, it is also just as important to mobile phone users. With that said, QR Code tool is, indeed, quite a welcome one.

It has been a couple of months since Google added the URL shortener tool to its toolbar and feedburner, but now it is also available to their other services like Picasa album, News, Maps, Moderator and Blogger. Sending or sharing the link with others is now just a matter of a single click or scan – brilliant!

Without leaving more conventional people out of the picture, this service is also good for those who prefer to email individuals in a more private manner. Long URLs can sometimes appear as broken links which frustrates not only individuals sharing links with friends and family members, mailing list operators will also sigh with great relief.

What advantage does Google have over other URL shortening services? Well, they are naturally faster and more reliable than others although TinyURL and Bit.ly’s been doing fantastic jobs so far. But this is Google we are talking about so, we KNOW it is more reliable.
