Google Uses HTML5 to Make Android.com a Lot More User-Friendly
The Android.com website has, until recently, been more of an embarrassment for Google rather than an asset. It had a boring design and its content were more or less haphazardly put together. Or at least it certainly felt like it was.
Like it or not, Android is a product, but its product page did not even attempt to sell it. Not to consumers, not to developers and certainly not to the press.
But technical jargon and sloppy presentation aside, the site’s most glaring crime was its boring design.
As we’ve said, it was a site that didn’t look like it came from an online giant like Google.
The good news is that Google seems to have listened and came out with its redesign of the Android.com site where they paid attention to the way the organize and present their content, came out with great HTML5 and Javascript coding and used compelling images to create a wonderful product site.
For example, if you want to know just what features were added to the latest version of Android, you can easily see the page that details what’s new and even lists the OS’ features. It also highlights the apps available for Android devices, making it clear that they have a more diverse line of apps than their competitors.
Each of the main sections has its own graphics rendered beautifully in HTML5. If you want a sample of what HTML5 can do for your site, this is a great site to visit. The new Android.com site is a lot flashier without having to use Flash, so you do not have to wait too long for the site to fully load, unlike how it would be if Flash was actually used. What’s more, the mix of graphics and text is also seamless, making it a much more beautiful site.
The new Android.com redesign has just laid out the best practices for today’s product pages: great content written well and organized intuitively, with a splash of graphics rendered using the latest technology and without slowing down your site’s load time.
