Hallmark Uses QR Codes in Halloween Cards
It seems that Hallmark followed our suggestion for QR code greeting cards.
Hallmark is bent on giving people a very exciting Halloween. The company introduces a new line of Halloween greeting cards for kids that use QR code technology.
Specifically, the company’s latest greeting card innovation uses quick response codes to allow kids to send a bonus video clip of their favorite animated character. By simply scanning the QR code printed on the back of the greeting card, the recipient is led to a video scene from family-oriented animated films like “Cars,” Marvel Super Hero Squad, Scooby Doo, and Disney Fairies.
Halloween is a great season to launch QR code greeting cards. According to Hallmark Product Manager Monic Houpe, Halloween is a season that celebrates kids. In fact, a survey by the National Confectioners Association found that 93% of children participate in trick-or-treating activities. Halloween is also the third largest party day in the United States, next only to New Year’s Eve and the Super Bowl Sunday.
Houpe also related that there is nothing more kids enjoy and love than videos of their favorite characters. Si it really makes sense to have the QR codes resolve to such videos.
Houpe said that they have also solicited feedback and opinion from parents, and many say that Halloween is a perfect time to get the kids’ attention and to extend the full of a greeting card.
The Hallmark Halloween cards are now available in Walmart stores for only $2.50. Hallmark plans to have an expanded card collection applying QR code technology at Hallmark Gold Crown® stores all over the country and wherever Hallmark products are sold at Christmas.
Hallmark’s use of QR codes in its greeting cards is not an entirely new concept. In 2010, the California-based Paperspring added the 2D barcodes to its social’s stationery. Earlier this year, PostcardsandInvitations.com released new greeting cards, postcards and invitations that create a more personal connection by mixing together traditional print and online content through QR codes.
