Heinz Ketchup Honors and Supports Veterans With QR Codes
Heinz Ketchup is using Quick Response codes for its new campaign celebrating war veterans. The campaign, which came in time for Veterans Day, makes it easy for Americans to show their appreciation for the men who served their country.
The new Heinz QR code campaign also aims to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. The WWP is a non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and empower wounded soldiers by raising awareness and enlisting people’s aid for the needs of injured service members and by providing unique and direct programs to meet these needs.
What the Heinz QR Codes Do
Heinz Ketchup bottles carry the “Our Turn to Serve” promotion in participating restaurants nationwide. Heinz invites diners to scan a QR code found at the back of its 20-ounce bottles and send a personalized “thank you” to the 24.9 million military veterans in the U.S. For every “thank you” sent and for every “like” on Heinz’s Facebook page, the ketchup maker will donate 57 cents to the WWP.
The Heinz Foundation and the H.J. Heinz Company, L.P. will collectively donate more than $300,000 to the WWP this year alone.
Aside from appreciation messages, the campaign also allows diners to make donations directly to the WWP and to learn more out how they can be more involved with certain veterans programs in their local communities.
This cause campaign for veterans also includes a partnership with the USO. Every custom “thank you” generated will be sent as a postcard through the USO to an active military service member or to a veteran with a personal message of appreciation.
Not the First of Heinz QR Codes
This is definitely not the first time that Heinz Ketchup has used QR codes to promote a cause or an advocacy. We have previously reported that Heinz Ketchup used QR codes on its restaurant bottles to invite people to join a trivia game in celebration of the first recyclable PET plastic bottle using PlantBottle(TM) technology. PlantBottle plastic is made from up to 30% renewable sugar cane material and is 100% recyclable. All of Heinz’s 20-ounce bottles are now made from this eco-friendly PlantBottle packaging.
This is also not the first time that Heinz shows support for military veterans. In fact, the ketchup maker has a long history of giving to soldiers and supporting veterans. Heinz had even converted one of its plants to manufacture parts for planes used during World War II, and during this time, it made special rations and gave almost half of its total food production to the Allied armed forces.
