Idea: Using QR Codes for Storage

QR codes are very flexible that you could use it to direct scanners to any URL, video, photo or any content you want. Also QR codes make things very convenient for you; in one scan you could get a ton of information with just one small QR code.

Why not use QR codes to document your storage boxes?

We all have gone through the trouble of putting old stuff such as clothes, stamp collections, curtains, houseware and even old Christmas decorations into boxes and then hauling them up the attic. Even with labels written on these boxes, it becomes really difficult to remember which boxes hold the things we want. We spend so much time and energy trying to locate the right box where we have put old pictures of some far away vacations.

QR codes can help you with this storage problem. Just take a photo of what’s inside a box and then create a QR code for that photo. The next time you go up the attic, you can just use your smartphone to scan the QR code and see what’s inside a box without opening it.

If you do not like photos, you can put together a list of things inside the box and then place that list behind a QR code.

If you are storing photographs, you can create an online slideshow of these photographs and put that slideshow behind a QR code. This way, if you are looking for old pictures, you can just scan the QR code and view the slideshow. If you find the photograph in the slide show, that’s when you open the box.

The same thing goes for clothes. Instead of opening boxes and boxes of old clothes, you can just scan the QR codes and see pictures of the clothes inside.

QR codes can certainly make things very convenient for you. On top of making it easy to document the things inside your storage boxes, you could also preview the things you have inside. What’s more, it is very easy to put up the codes. You just create the codes, test it and print it on stickers and stick them outside the boxes!
