Intel and Inside Secure Enter Near-Field Communication Agreement
Intel Corporation and INSIDE Secure SA have entered into a technology transfer and service deal. Pursuant to the agreement, Inside Secure will provide Intel access to its near-field communication software and core hardware technology that the latter can use in the development of its future products.
What’s more, INSIDE will be providing Intel’s Mobile Wireless Group access to scalable NFC solutions based on the NFC chip specialist’s MicroRead NFC controller chip, SecuRead combined NFC controller and embedded secure element, and Open NFC products for Android phones.
The MicroRead (R) NFC controller is a third-generation product which sets a new standard for easy integration, which offers a wide range of NFC options, and which enables users to support multiple types of secure element – including SIM, SD or SE card – that can be used for various business models. SecuRead (R) integrates the MicroRead with a high-performance secure element as well as a Java Card (TM) that is compliant with GlobalPlatform. Both the MicroRead and SecuRead are integrated with INSIDE’s Open NFC protocol stack in order to provide users best-of-breed solutions.
It can be recalled that just recently, Intel obtained a seat on the NFC Forum board after upgrading its membership level at the organization. This move also followed its announcement last month it is working on payments solutions with MasterCard for NFC-capable Intel Ultrabook devices as well as any future generations of any Intel-based PC models.
According to Aicha Evans, Intel’s Mobile Wireless Group vice-president and general manager, NFC is gaining a foothold in many markets as one of the highly convenient methods of utilizing consumer electronic devices for commercial transactions, for access to information and facilities, and for a number of other applications. He expresses enthusiasm over working with INSIDE and developing a range of connectivity solutions for mainstream NFC-based consumer products.
