Mercedes-Benz Celebrates 125th Anniversary with QR Code Race

Mercedes-Benz Singapore marks its 125th birthday with a QR Code race. The race, dubbed Mercedes-Benz 125! runs on the weekends between August 26 and September 18.

The contestants need to find five Mercedes-Benz cars carrying QR codes within specific areas in Singapore. The first player to find all five cars will win Grandstand tickets for two to the Singapore Night Race. He will also get to experience a weekend test drive with Mercedes-Benz. The overall fastest contestant for all four race weekends will bag the Grand Prize, which is a chance to fly to Germany and visit the automaker’s factory and museum there.

To join the race, however, you will need the Mercedes-Benz 125! Race iPhone App.

This promo by the auto giant takes advantage of both QR code technology and mobile apps to achieve its marketing goals. And it is applying QR codes for a fun and exciting race. This only goes to show how Mercedes-Benz and its dealers around the world are again using cutting edge technology to create buzz.

It can be recalled that last year, Mercedes-Benz Oakville started using QR codes when it built a web page listing the Ontario dealership’s sales team as well as its parts representatives. Next to every sales or parts representative’s picture and name is a QR code that leads scanners to that rep’s contact information. Customers can easily store the rep’s name, telephone number, e-mail address and other contact details into their smartphones.

In May, Mercedes-Benz’s dealer in Qatar – Nasser Bin Khaled (NBK) Automobiles – embarked on a QR code campaign as part of an enhanced social communications initiative. Scanners of the code will be directed to the Mercedes-Benz Cyber World.

What NBK Automobiles General Manager Khaled Shaa’aban said sums it up for the auto maker: “Mercedes-Benz has recently celebrated 125 years of innovation. This can only translate into the fact that Mercedes-Benz, in addition to being the inventor of the automobile, is truly a pioneer in the automotive technology. “The introduction of the QR Code serves to add a mind-blowing element to the experience Mercedes-Benz vehicles’ owners have had so far.”
