Near-Field Communication to Trump on QR Codes in the Future
Because of the similarities between QR codes and near-field communication technology, it is impossible for people to avoid comparing them. Both are very easy ways to bridge offline marketing materials with online resources. They can help us save space while also giving out more information about our products and services.
This is the best thing about living in today’s world. We have a choice on which technology we are most comfortable with and which is easier for us to use.

MediaPost.com is the latest to come out with their predictions for both NFC and QR codes. MediaPost is painting a rosy future for NFC while basically saying that QR codes are not going to be adopted widely.
MediaPost.com cites a Yankee Group report showing that QR codes will only be scanned by 8% of all mobile subscribers, with this number falling to only 5% by the year 2015.
This is because a lot of people are not even sure about what QR codes do and what to do with them. There is also the question on whether QR codes are secure because of largely undetected website redirection.
These are just two reasons why near-field communication is a better alternative. It is a simpler technology and transmission is usually secure. This is also because of the short distance necessary to access an NFC smart tag.
If you want to get a more in-depth comparison between these two technologies, BeQRious.com has a series of articles doing just that.

We still stand firm, however, that while these technologies have their similarities and differences, there is no reason why they should be pitted against one another. As a marketer, you could benefit from using both technologies, and you really don’t have to choose one over the other.
Similar to you having a Facebook like page and a Twitter account, using both NFC and QR codes make sure that you have the capabilities to reach a bigger part of your customers!
