QR Code Shopping Wall Trend Invades Singapore
We have written about Tesco in South Korea being the first to use quick response codes in bringing the ultimate shopping convenience to people, especially commuters, by putting up a virtual grocery store on the wall. After that came several other retail companies using QR codes in window store displays and billboards or posters in order to allow passersby to shop for certain items without actually having to go inside the store and line up at the cashier.
Well, Singapore is the latest to join in the fun of having virtual shopping walls.
Supermarket chain Cold Storage has put up special posters that feature certain grocery items, each accompanied by a QR code. These posters are placed on walls at the Boon Lay and Bugis MRT stations where thousands of commuters and people on the go can spot them easily.
A commuter who wants to purchase a particular featured item only needs to scan the QR code via smartphone and he or she will be taken to the Cold Storage mobile website where he or she can take a look at the details of that item and then buy it. Customers will also have to key in their bank or credit card account details in order to pay for the goods they want. Their purchases will be delivered right in front of their doorsteps.
This marketing effort by Cold Storage recognizes the fact that many commuters lead busy lives and barely have the time to go to the supermarket. This is the reason why online shopping is the way of the future. What’s more, installing the QR code store in a public transport location ensures that many people could really see and notice it.
The Cold Storage QR Code Wall is good only for the holiday season. It is just meant to help really busy commuters with their holiday shopping. The virtual store will be up only until December 20. It has also limited its featured grocery items to 20.
