QR Codes Allow Philadelphia Commuters to Shop
Yeah, we know virtual stores using Quick Response codes are probably passé or old news to some, but it still makes us happy to know that more and more retail establishments are seeing the benefits of the technology. The latest to use QR codes to bring convenience to shoppers is Peapod.
Peapod, which is one of the United States’ largest internet grocer, has come up with a new mobile app that allows Philadelphia residents to shop wherever they may be. To spread the word regarding this new app, Peapod teamed up with Titan and is using its transit advertising.
Peapod, for those who are not familiar with the name, is a smart shopping option targeted towards the busy consumers. This Ahold USA company currently serves 24 U.S. markets. Titans, on the other hand, is a full service media company that specializes in Out-of-Home advertising and is a leader in Transit Advertising in the country.
Peapod’s move is in response to findings that Philadelphia locals spend about 30 minutes each day—or 2.5 hours per week – on average in commuting to work. So the company decided to help Philadelphians put this time to good use by allowing them to do their grocery shopping while they’re commuting, even while they are waiting for their train.
Using their smartphones or tablets, consumers only need to scan the QR code that’s listed in the ad to download the Peapod app. Once they are already in the app, they can start browsing thousands of items. Peapod is running a special promotion, too. Customers are encouraged to use “PHILLYRAIL” as a promo code to get $20 off of their first order as well as 60 days of free delivery.
Brands like Stroehmann, P&G and Coke have collaborated with Peapod to reach on-the-go customers via QR codes and mobile technology.
According to the company, they chose Philadelphia because they consider it an exciting new market for this kind of initiative, plus the fact that Titan has a compelling media property in this city.
