QR Codes Offer a Clever Way of Raising Interest in Catwoman
The promotions for the latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, is getting to full swing as the studio released theatrical and movie posters one after the other. We have seen the banners, the character posters and other promotional material coming out one after the other.
The Dark Knight Rises is the third and final part of Christopher Nolan’s take on the Batman story. It will be starring Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Anne Hathaway, tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, and Joseph Gordon Levitt.
Most fans speculated that Catwoman would be a Batman ally this time around, because of the teasers making people believing so. But a QR code in a recent Batman poster may prove them wrong.
In one of the latest posters released by producers and the studio on the film’s official site and Facebook page, one of them displayed a QR code. Vigilant readers on the Batman-News blog pointed out that scanning that QR code would reveal another poster that was not part of those earlier released by the people behind the film.
Interestingly enough, it shows stilettos breaking the Batman logo. This led people to suspect that Catwoman might not be an ally after all.
In any case, the secret poster generated more buzz than the “official” marketing posters released through the site and the Facebook page. This proves once again that a well planned QR code marketing strategy could go a long way to create buzz for your brand, product, service and in this case, movie. As more and more moviemakers are using QR codes to market their films, it certainly helps to be creative with your marketing. Making something exclusive and secretive is a great way to get people to sit up and take notice. This way, people start to seek out your ads, rather than seeing them as obtrusive advertising.
