QR Codes Promote Florida City

cityoftempleterrace

Officials at Temple Terrace in Florida are now using quick response codes to market the city among smartphone users.

Temple Terrace’s director of public works, Robert Gordon, explains that QR code is cutting-edge technology and that it will be an effective and quick way to share information with the public since more and more people are now using smartphones.

Officials, with help from the Greater Temple Terrace Chamber of Commerce, created and installed the first QR code sign at the city and will be putting up more signs around town. There will be signs at the library, at the Rec Center, at the chamber office, and at other public areas. Temple Terrace also plans to put up signs in its downtown redevelopment area, in the neighborhood parks, and in other prominent areas at a later time.

The QR codes installed in front of the city buildings will direct smartphone users to the city’s website. The codes in front of the chamber office will lead scanners to the chamber’s site.

Temple Terrace is one of the first cities in Florida, and maybe in the United States, to be utilizing these 2D barcodes as a city marketing tool.

Other cities can follow Temple Terrace’s example and take advantage of QR code’s ability to provide interactivity for smartphone users, its novelty, and its ability to share any kind of useful online content. If local communities see the potential of QR code technology, then they can use it to pave the way towards progress and towards a more informed public.
