SXSW 2010 Uses QR Codes On Badges

sxswThe SXSW festival and conference has been going on (and going strong) for the past 24 years. 24 years in Austin Texas, if we are not wrong about this, and creating new ways to find talents for the music, entertainment, movies, and interactive industries. Attendees get to immerse themselves into a whole hotbed of activities so that they can network around. What is interesting is that the conference this year, to be held from March 12th to March 21st 2010, there will be QR Codes involved.

Every year, attendees are given a badge for attending the event. This year, the badge will come with a QR Code which introduces the attendee by way of a personal page. See someone you would like to know better? Walk up to that person, introduce yourself, chat a little and ask that person permission to scan his or her QR Code and save it into your smart phone. As simple as that. Maybe with the introduction of QR Codes to the event, there will no longer be a need to pass around business cards. Can't say that is a bad thing, actually.

Many heavyweights in the entertainment industry usually find the time to make it to this event, more for the networking opportunities than the fun of being around people of like mind.

During the conference, big names will come as speakers, creative minds will come forward to open up a whole world of possibilities – hence, it is a really inspiring event, although the cost of attending it doesn't come cheap. As pricey as it is, it is still worth it if you are really into the entertainment industry.

The event is divided into SXSW interactive, SXSW film and SXSW music. When one accesses the QR Code, there will be a personal page for the attendee, and a chance to leave a message or contact information on it. The event is so big that the Marqr is having a fun little sideline thing with a QR Code scavenger hunt all around the city, so, to say the least, Austin Texas is almost splattered with QR Codes at this moment. For the independently organized scavenger hunt, it actually leads you to online information and for those who actually finds these markers stands a chance to win great prizes from sponsors.
