Sonic Drive-in Uses QR Codes for Fundraising Campaign

For four years now, Sonic Drive-in has been collaborating with DonorsChoose.org to come up with a public school fund raising campaign that aims to donate over $500,000 to public schools in the country. Called the Limeades for Learning, the fundraising project will now feature QR codes and a mobile campaign.

Sonic will put up the QR codes on the soda cups you purchase at one of their over 3,500 drive-in theaters in the country. Patrons can scan these QR codes and visit the mobile Web site of LimeadesforLearning.com. From there, they can vote for their favorite teacher projects and donate.

DonorsChoose.org has reported that teachers spend their own money for basic learning materials and supplies for their students. In fact, teachers often shell out $1 billion a year to do just that.

The Limeades Web site features different projects created by public school teachers for their students. It also allows you to help raise money for these projects.

But that is not the only way you can help. You can like and share the page on your Facebook and Twitter accounts so that your friends could donate as well.

Sonic’s vice president for communications, Nancy Love Robertson, says that QR codes and other innovative technologies are a natural fit to help build awareness, especially for a project such as Limeades for Learning.

We think that Sonic should be commended for its participation in such a project. Given its reach, it would be easier for LimeadesForLearning.com to reach out to more people all around the nation. This would certainly help public school teachers get the funding for their various projects and ultimately help school kids have a better education. This will also mean that public school teachers will not have to spend their own money, which, as we know, is not enough for their daily expenditures.

And all it takes is one QR code that is placed on cups.
