No one can deny it – technology is amazing and we, here at BeQRious, love it when companies and brand names start embracing it on a large scale…just like how the City of Chicago of Emergency Management and Communication saw how useful the codes could be and launched the first large scale emergency information site…together with plans to place QR Codes leading to the website. The QR Codes created will be placed at strategic public places so that residents to access emergency information quickly and on-the-go.
The QR Codes leads residents to a website whereby they can keep the authorities and interested parties up-to-date in cases of emergencies whereby people needed to take immediate action. You do not need a specific (expensive or separate) device to access the QR Codes. What you have right now, right there in the pockets or handbags, is sufficient. Yes, your mobile phones or tablets can scan the QR Code in mere seconds.
Residents can find not only just instant info about emergencies, it was reported that there will be latest updates on traffic conditions, health alerts, weather reports and if there was a major accident, it would be reported in the website and residents can then plan their journeys ahead of time. If the information in the press release is accurate, the QR Code leads mobile phone users to a website www.NotifyChicago.com.
Some may say that the website or the tool is highly unnecessary because there are already many other online social networking sites which can help the authorities keep residents alert about what is happening in and around the city…for instance, Twitter and Facebook but here is the problem with Twitter and Facebook…you can’t organize them and they are highly time-sensitive tools. In cases of emergencies, residents might not catch the first notification and may want to check back previous notifications…it is, admittedly, hard to do that on Twitter.
So, I say that having a website like this is much welcomed.
A representative from OEMC said that as new technologies are introduced, there is a need to catch on and the city will adopt them to make emergency information easier to find and also not forgetting making it more convenient, albeit available on mobile phones and tablets.
