The Hunt For QR Codes During SXSW

sxsw

Although playing around with QR Codes and turning it into a game is nothing new, it is most certainly one of a relatively novel idea in the United States, with the nation only just beginning to understand and accept the concept. Therefore, it is heartening to see more people integrating the use of QR Codes into the marketing campaign…like the one in SXSW.

RightNow have launched quite a sizable QR Code Scavenger Hunt at SXSW which combines the use of QR Codes, Twitter, Twipic and also FourSquare. We are unsure about the details of the game but what we do know is that it is an interesting development and it must be great to watch the stats as the game begins.

In order to play the game, first of all, you will need a Twitter account. Registering for a Twitter account is absolutely free of charge so, get yourself one if you are not already in on the game. But we warn you that it is addictive and you run the risk of tweeting consistently at all times.

Those already with Twitter accounts started the game by tweeting ‘#theGame_SXSW I want to join!’ and the people manning the account will pick up the hashtag and respond with your first clue. And from there, they would be on a hunt trying to find t-shirts with QR Codes printed onto the back of the black t-shirts ready to be scanned.

The prize, we suspect, is not the main motivation. I mean, how much time and effort would you spend on winning a Nikon D7000 camera and kit?

In a lot of ways, people are game for such activities because of the element of surprise and discovery. Let’s admit it, we’re awfully curious and when there is something like this, it makes the game absolutely hard to resist.

Were you one of those involved in the game? Let us know what the experience was like in our comments section.

Here’s to your AMAZING Monday!

I agree that people engage in the game for the element of discovery, but a Nikon camera sure doesn’t hurt anything.
