The Latest Android Market Stats from AppBrain.com
Still looking for the perfect app for your business? Then it’s time to take a look at the market. For today, we are taking a look at Google’s Android Market, with statistics from AppBrain.com
The latest statistics from AppBrain.com shows that the number of apps available on the Android market is now more than 250,000. The bad news is that the number of low quality apps, or those deemed to be not useful to anyone has also come up to close to 100,000, while regular apps number more than 150,000. However, the ratio of low quality to regular apps is diverging; meaning the proportion of low quality apps as compared to regular apps is now lower. There are now roughly 2 low quality apps for every 3 regular apps, compared to a 1:1 ratio in October 2010.
With the 256,826 apps in the Android market, a resounding majority is available for free, with 164,146 apps. Paid apps number around 93,585.
The average rating for all apps is a good 3.8. This shows that on the average, apps on the Android Market are good. Take note, however, that more than half of the apps are rated below 3, because a lot of the apps are not rated.
Looking to create your own app for Android devices? Entertainment apps seem to be most popular with around 32,500 apps available. Next most popular are personalization apps and books and reference apps. If you want a less crowded category, then shoot for apps under the Sports, Education and Arcade & Action categories. Surprisingly, Tools, Lifestyle, Brain & Puzzle and Travel & Local apps are in the mid-range.
There were 1877 apps that allow for in-app billing as of August 15, 2011. If you want to earn money from in-app billing, then take a look at these three apps for inspiration: Inotia: Children of Carnia, Paradise Island and Ant Smasher.
