The Power To Mobilize Your Life – QR Codes
Due to the increasing familiarity arising out of sheer curiosity about what QR Codes can do and how marketers can mobilize ads and commercials, Michael Weir (if you are a techy, this name should ring a bell) wrote a book called QR Codes and Mobile Marketing for the Small Business Owner. How far the book went as far as sales went, we are not sure. But the topic he was writing about is right up our alley.
In the book, Weir explained in detail the functions, benefits, advantages and use of QR Codes. Our quick explanation for what QR Codes is this – they are unconventional-looking barcodes that can be scanned by anyone with a QR Code reader. By the way, QR stands for ‘Quick Response’. QR Code’s origin is in Japan and while the Japanese’s been using the system for nearly a decade, it is only in the last few years that the rest of the world caught on.
QR Codes are so much more powerful than the conventional ones (barcodes used on packaging right now) because it can contain not only web URLs, it can encode telephone numbers, text messages, commands and contact information.
The function of QR Codes really goes beyond these self-effacing purposes because on the business front, QR Codes can help with inventory control and tracking of materials which is a great benefit to the logistics and shipping industry.
The reason why QR Code is experiencing a boom right now is because it is versatile and despite having such commendable capabilities, it is still GROWING. In a lot of ways, it is like an open source programming system that can be shaped and re-shaped as we use them. On top of being extremely versatile, general consumers find it enticing because it is free to create and use.
Furthermore, no external device is needed to scan the codes. All you need is a reliable QR Code reader which you can count on not to foul up whenever the code isn’t very clear. The quality of the camera DOES have a role to play in the efficiency of the QR Code scanner. The lower megapixel, the harder to read the code.
Generally speaking, consumers like their information quick, almost instant. That is part of the reason why we are seeing such interest in this Japan-made technology.
