U.S. Army: The Newest QR Code Users
So who else is keeping pace with cutting edge technology and is now using QR codes? The United States Army.
If you have visited the U.S. Army’s site, then you already know that they have a presence on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, and even on Flickr and YouTube. They are impressively current and up-to-date technology-wise.
However, to further keep up with the times, they are starting to use QR codes as part of their effort to provide information to the public. So far, the Army Career Centers in the Sacramento Recruiting Battalion are the first to utilize these maze-like bar codes. They are creating QR codes for prospective applicants to scan.
The codes, which will be placed on windows, will lead prospective army applicants to information regarding that specific Army Career Center. They can also click on a link and go to that Career Center’s Facebook page if they choose to.

Scanning the QR Code above, for example, will help you learn more about the Army.mil mobile application. Army.mil will give you the latest news and information about the organization, allow you to view photos and videos of the army, as well as connect you to the army’s Facebook page and Twitter account with just a click.
The army’s use of QR codes is one great way to encourage young men to join them and get the chance to become one of the country’s honored soldiers. QR codes are a great way to give people instant access to information even if a center is closed for the weekend or if soldiers are out on an appointment. The army sure knows how to take advantage of the prevalence of mobile devices and smartphones in today’s society.
People are really finding more and more innovative applications for these two-dimensional bar codes. The more ways people find, the more unexpected they get. In this case, for instance, who would have thought the U.S Army will hop into the bandwagon and use these pixilated boxes to reach out to the common people?
