What’s New Across the Pond? The BBC Uses QR Codes in New Cooking Show

cooking

The BBC is one of the more progressive broadcasters in the United Kingdom.  This is especially true when it comes to QR codes.  The broadcaster was one of the first to utilize QR codes in their marketing and information campaigns.  They were also one of the first companies to come up with a customized QR code by simply setting their logo at the center of their QR code.

In fact, no discussion about basic customized QR codes design is ever complete without mentioning BBC’s iconic QR code design.

Now the BBC is pushing the envelop even further.  The broadcaster’s BBC1 is launching a new cooking show titled The Good Cook to be hosted by world-renowned chef Simon Hopkinson.  The BBC says that the program hopes to bring restaurant-quality food that people could make at home using easy to find everyday ingredients.

Hopkinson is also a best-selling food writer and a 30-year veteran in cooking.

So what’s so novel about another cooking show?  Well, the BBC is planning to use QR codes with the program.  BBC One’s Danny Cohen relates that they want the channel to be the first to use technologies that allow for interactivity and innovation.  And what simpler way to achieve this than using QR codes.

The show’s QR codes would lead scanners to more information about the recipes that are featured on the show, as well as more details about the ingredients used in these recipes.  The QR codes would also take scanners to BBC’s mobile food website.

So what do these QR codes do for you?  Simple.  They help you do away with having to hurry in taking the ingredients down.  You do not have to scurry to write down all the ingredients, which could be a problem if you are still a beginner in cooking, or if the show’s host talks too fast.  What’s more, it would be easier to follow the recipes if you have a copy of it available for you to go back to every now and then.
